33 Things I’ve Learnt From Personal Development Work

I started my personal growth journey back in 2017.
After meditating on the ‘Headspace’ app for the very first time, I experienced a sense of peace that I’d never felt before.
I went on to meditate daily for 365 days straight.
From there I began to get curious about just how great life can get when I start to work on myself.
Fast forward to this current day and I’ve spent hours and hours working on myself, thousands of $$$ investing in ME, and one of the greatest gifts I can give to you is to share what I’ve found.
I hope you enjoy these lessons from my personal growth journey so far, more importantly I hope at least one of these sparks something inside of you to go ALL IN on YOU.
#1 There’s no finish line to personal growth.
#2 You can’t help anyone until they’re ready to help themselves (it’s also not your responsibility to make others happy).
#3 When you learn to detach and surrender to what you truly want, so that you’re not in the energy of ‘wanting’ or ‘needing’ all of the time, you attract it into your life a hell of a lot quicker.
#4 You will continue to get more of what you’re focusing on and where you’re placing your energy (like attracts like).
Meaning you should ONLY focus on what you DO WANT, and never put your time or energy into what you don’t like or don’t want.
#5 The ONLY TIME is right now. The past happens in the now, the future happens in the now, meaning that in order to truly feel abundant, free and at a high frequency, you MUST live in the present moment.
#6 Meditation is hard. The reason being, we quite literally never just sit with our own thoughts and no distractions. When you feel the discomfort and resistance, don’t shy away from it, lean into it and let go, on the other side of that is growth and something you haven’t experienced before. If you’re ‘too busy to meditate’, it’s even more of a reason to do it. Slow down to go faster.
When you can get to the point where you can experience genuine bliss and abundance by purely sitting with your own thoughts and reaching the nothingness of pure potentiality, you have unlocked true power and joy. Meditation is quite literally your opportunity to create your future by setting an intention, attaching an emotion to that intention/visualisation and being able to experience the feeling of it already being done through thought alone. Once you can do this, in theory you already have it, meaning it’s now a matter of IF, not WHEN you will attract it into your life.
– The word meditation means: To become familiar with.
Start thinking of meditation as your opportunity to become familiar with your highest self, the future you. Mentally rehearse it until you no longer feel the difference between a thought and reality.
#7 All change is hard at the start, extremely difficult in the middle, and incredible at the end.
CHANGE requires resistance and discomfort, but your ability to sit in that resistance and discomfort is what allows you to truly change.
Think of the example of changing your body, you have to provide your muscles with a stimulus/resistance that it’s uncomfortable with in order for it to adapt and grow… our minds are no different. The problem so many people have is the inability to feel discomfort and resistance. The longer you continue to stay comfortable and stick with what’s familiar, the longer you’ll remain the same.
#8 VULNERABILITY is your superpower. You can either be held back by your insecurities and vulnerabilities, or you can shed light on them and guarantee exponential growth in a short period of time.
#9 The most important part of MANIFESTING is getting extremely clear on the WHAT, the HOW and the WHEN are not up to us and they’re irrelevant.
Ask yourself what you truly want, with no limitations, no limting beliefs, it doesn’t have to make sense… just keep your focus on the WHAT and the universe will show you the way.
#10 We have proven to ourselves over and over again that MANIFESTING works, we’ve just been doing it the wrong way around.
Think about a time where you’ve been over-thinking, thinking negatively or anxious about something happening that you badly don’t want… There’s usually not one bit of evidence to suggest that it’s going to happen, however we have such a strong belief that it will. We go on to spend our time and energy thinking about this negative outcome and sure enough, most of the time it happens. This re-affirms our belief and then the cycle continues.
Now, I want you to flip that the other way around. Set an intention, an illogical, crazy intention that would make your life incredible if it were to happen… place the exact same level of belief into that idea, even though there’s likely no evidence to suggest it’s going to happen. Align yourself with that belief and TRUST that it’s happening for you. I can guarantee that if you place the same level of energy and belief into that positive outcome, the process will play out the exact same way.
I always ask myself this question – “What if everything worked out better than I could have ever imagined?”. I then ask the universe to show me how great life can truly get.
#11 COMMUNICATION will improve your life and ASSUMPTIONS will ruin it. Watch this for more on this.
#12 Nothing is about you. This means that you should never take anything personally, people simply project onto others how they feel about themselves or a reflection of where their own level of consciousness and awareness is.
When someone expresses something and it feels aimed at you, just know that it’s not.
#13 Our limiting beliefs are the ONLY thing holding us back from an incredible life, and we all have them. By shedding light on these beliefs and most importantly, RE-FRAMING and choosing a new belief, you can change your outcome instantly. Stop telling yourself the same story about yourself and watch how things change.
#14 What you experience in your life is a DIRECT REFLECTION of what thoughts, energy and actions you’re putting out into the universe. Life is like a boomerang, you get back what you put out into the world.
#15 ATTACHMENT is what causes hurt and disappointment. Nothing in life is permanent, instead of getting attached to anything, anyone or anywhere, become present and enjoy it in the NOW, instead of spending your time and energy thinking about what would happen if you ‘lost it’.
#16 You can not WAIT for your life to change in order for YOU to change, you have to change first.
When we want to attract anything into our life (people, outcomes, material items, money etc) we HAVE TO EMBODY that version of ourselves NOW, before anything in reality has changed. By doing this, we become a VIBRATIONAL MATCH for that outcome. Once you’ve done that, it’s already yours and you should stop looking or waiting for it, live your life as if it’s already done and watch the magic happen.
#17 There are 2 real types of POWER.
– Ego based power (object referral, meaning that your power is purely due to having something… e.g. money, job status, car, parent etc)
– Self power (this power is unstoppable)
When you can generate your own power for no reason other than just being yourself, no one can take that away from you, that’s when you unlock the ability to be intentional about your frequency.
#18 It’s a choice to be offended. This can be hard to wrap your head around sometimes, but we have to realise that WE have the power to CHOOSE at all times. The easy option when someone tries to offend you is to ‘choose’ to be offended, however no one has the power to alter our mood or consciousness unless we allow them too. You have the ability to choose not to be offended or hurt, just as easy as you can choose to do the opposite.
#19 Vibrational Frequency suggests that we don’t need to ‘go-to’ our goal or intention, it already exists within the universe and quantum field.
The best way I can explain this is to think of the radio in your car, if you want to listen to a different channel you don’t need to build the channel, it’s already there, you simply need to tune your radio frequency into the correct channel. The same goes for YOU, by embodying the future version of you, you begin to understand that we aren’t separate from our best self, sometimes we’re just on the wrong frequency.
#20 YOU are responsible for everything in your life. Not everything is your ‘fault’, however you are responsible. Once you come to this understanding, you remove the need for resentment, blame, hate etc. Remember, resentment is like you drinking poison and hoping the other person dies.
#21 INTENTION is everything. Don’t be disappointed with where you are/what you have if you never declared what you want or where you want to be. Start your day with intention and your RAS (reticular activation system) will be more consciously aware of what you committed to.
#22 You are not your thoughts or emotions. Far too many people believe their every thought or emotion, causing unnecessary pain or anxiety. We must become the OBSERVER of our thoughts.
I use the analogy of a CEO having a job up for grabs, that CEO needs to sit down with all of the applicants for the job and hear them out, however they’re only going to choose ONE for the job. When you learn to observe your thoughts you will notice a drastic reduction in stress and and anxiety.
#23 Your beliefs and values will determine your life’s outcome.Regardless of whether your beliefs are TRUE or FALSE, as long as you believe them they will be 100% true for you and your life.
#24 The energy of MONEY is neutral, meaning the way you are attached to money along with the beliefs you have around money, will determine your experience of it (more to come on this soon).
#25 BREATH-WORK will change your life – Start here if you’re new.
#26 You can’t attract into your life what you criticise – When you see someone else do well, or have the thing/s you want, instead of criticising, showing jealousy or even talking shit about them because of your own insecurities, BE HAPPY FOR THEM, wish even more success or abundance on them and ask yourself how you would hope others would feel about you if you were in their position.
#27 CONFIDENCE is built through action and increasing knowledge. We can’t possibly expect to be confident at something new or things we lack knowledge and experience in. It’s OKAY to be shit at something when you’re first starting. Give yourself the license to make mistakes.
Aiming for perfection or labelling yourself as a ‘perfectionist’ is the fastest way to a disappointing life.
#28 One sentence can change your life.
#29 You are worthy of all of the success, love, happiness and abundance in the universe, don’t allow anyone to make you think otherwise.
#30 You will never be ‘ready’ to start (there’s never a perfect time). If you feel ready, you’ve waited too long.
#31 Removing all judgement towards yourself and others will completely free you. The thing we have to understand is that no matter what people show on the surface (right or wrong), everyone is just doing their best with what they have available to them.
Our EGO thinks it knows best, however we don’t know how we would be if we had experienced the same things as someone else, if we had their trauma, their limiting beliefs, their life experiences and their level of consciousness. Removing judgement allows us to mind our own business and not get sucked in to other people’s limiting beliefs.
#32 Comparison is the thief of JOY
#33 Small consistent efforts, done exceptionally well on a daily consistent basis compound to HUGE GROWTH.
Lastly, there is no right or wrong way to do personal development, do what feels good for you and follow the good feeling. There’s plenty more that I’m sure will come to mind after I send this, but it’s a good start 🙂
P.S. If you want to change what you’re experiencing, it’s time to bring some awareness to your thoughts, your actions, your habits, the language you’re using, the people you’re surrounding yourself with and the environment you’re in.. and ask yourself the question, if I continue to do the same thing, does it make sense that I’ll have the life I’m ‘saying’ I want?
If not, it’s up to you to change it. And I know you can do it, I believe in you, but nothing will change until YOU DO.
