Alcohol and Weight Loss: How to Drink Alcohol & Still Lose Weight

Speak to most trainers out there and they will tell you to avoid alcohol at all costs, why? What if I told you that you CAN enjoy a social drink here and there without going off track with your progress one bit. In actual fact you can drink alcohol and lose weight/fat at the same time.. mind blown right?

Let me explain how.

As long as you are tracking your daily intake of calories you are able to manipulate your macros so that you can fit in a few alcoholic drinks without sabotaging your ‘diet’ and still lose weight.

The easiest way to do this is to divide the total calories of your alcoholic drink by 4 and take that number from your daily carbohydrate intake or divide it by 9 and take that number from your daily fat intake.

Example 1:

-1 glass of red wine (250ml) is worth 170 calories. I want to take these calories from my daily carb intake.

-170 / 4 = 42.5

-Meaning I would take 42.5g of carbs from my daily intake.

Example 2:

-1 Carlton draught beer (375ml) is worth 278 calories. I want to take these calories from my daily fat intake

-278 / 9 = 30.8

-Meaning I would take 31g of fats from my daily intake.

So there you have it, next time one of your friends wants you to come out for a drink or you feel like sipping on a nice wine with dinner, don’t be afraid, you can still enjoy a drink and lose weight. After all, what’s the point of sticking to a ‘diet’ that doesn’t allow any flexibility. I always say to my clients, you can have the most optimal program or diet plan in the world but it’s useless if you can’t stick to it.
